What should I expect during the recruitment process and at interview?

We pride ourselves in responding to each and every applicant, successful or not. If you are shortlisted for a role, we will make contact with you to book an interview. Once you confirm attendance, we will follow up with details of the interview, so you know where to go, who to meet and what to expect.

Occasionally, we will include a telephone interview, second interview stage, or a test and will always keep you informed about the next steps. Our interviews last about 45 minutes and are designed for us to understand your skills, competencies and behaviours. We usually make decisions within a couple of days of interview and always within a week.

What should I expect on my first day?

You will be greeted and shown around by your line manager. The first day will be all about meeting your new team and becoming familiar with our Health and Safety and Company Management Systems. It is a good idea to bring some lunch with you, as some of our offices are surrounded by fields and trees. During the first week, you will set objectives as part of your personal development plan.

What career growth opportunities are there at Stonbury?

As a growing business, we are always on the look-out for talented individuals who have the ambition to grow with us. Many of our existing Directors and Managers have worked through the ranks to where they are today.

What is the office dress code?

We are quite relaxed here and more focused on getting the job done well. Smart casual works for most of us.

What are the core office hours?

In general, we work 8.30-4.30 or 9-5 Monday to Friday. As a business that covers a large geographical area, there is a need for flexibility on this. While most support roles include hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days spent in the office, we welcome you to ask about flexibility at interview stage and we will explore what is possible for the role.

Can I apply for a position if I can't find it advertised?

We welcome speculative applications directly from candidates. Please contact our recruitment team on careers@stonbury.co.uk for more details on vacancies.

Agencies, please be aware we aren’t looking to work with recruitment specialists and will not progress any speculative CVs.

How do I know I'm part of a fair, unbiased process?

We consider the qualifications and work experience required for the role compared to those outlined in your completed application. As a modern, diverse, professional, and safe company, we are committed to fair and inclusive hiring practices while acting in accordance with all local market regulations and employment laws.

At Stonbury we continuously review our hiring practices based on feedback, data analysis and industry best practice. This ensures that our processes remain fair, inclusive, and effective over time.

For how long will you store my application?

We will store your application for 12 months, after which it will be permanently erased. To see our privacy policy please go here.

Do I need to supply my own PPE and tools?

No, everything is provided for you. Our brand is very important to us, as such you will be provided with branded PPE and equipment, even down to the pens, mugs, water bottles and bobble hats!

I have a disability. Can you accommodate my needs during the recruitment process?

We are committed to making the recruitment process accessible. We can provide application forms in an alternative format or make reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process. Please indicate any specific requirements in your application or make our Talent Acquisition team aware.

How does PayGo© work for site staff?

Stonbury operate a price work scheme called PayGo©, allowing Supervisors and Operatives the opportunity to earn the money they deserve for working hard on site. Supervisors receive a scope of works prior to the job commencing, detailing the work required and the earnings for each element of the job. The work completed is booked in weekly and paid out monthly.  You will earn a minimum monthly amount which will increase as you complete the scope of works on site. Typical earnings are £30,000 - £45,000 per annum. Subject to you not declining work you are guaranteed a gross minimum salary of £27,456 (operative) or £32,448 (supervisor) per annum. If you are stood down for reasons beyond your control such as in the case of inclement weather making work impossible or unreasonable, you will be paid at least this minimum monthly salary split across 12 monthly payments or your actual worked hours if greater.

We know this is a big decision. If your application is successful, we will allow plenty of time to answer all of your burning questions during the interview.
